PRAYING FOR PRIESTS AND VOCATIONS

"The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest." (Luke 10:2)

Jesus' exhortation to his disciples to pray for labourers to his harvest reminds us that Vocations do not come up by chance, or by themselves automatically, nor can we make them out of human effort.

Vocation is a gift which comes from the love of God. We need to pray for vocations so that those He has bestowed with this gift may respond accordingly. God calls and man must be open and attentive to listen to him. Prayers help those chosen to listen to His voice, and to have the courage and strength to answer “yes?to Him. And every Christian has the responsibility to pray for this intention.

“Today the prayerful expectation of new vocations should become an ever more continual and widespread habit within the entire Christian community and in every one of its parts. Thus it will be possible to re-live the experience the Apostles in the Upper Room who, in union with Mary, prayerfully awaited the outpouring of the Spirit, who will not fail to raise up once again the People of God “worthy ministers for the altar, ardent but gentle proclaimers of the Gospel." (Pastores Dabo Vobis, # 38)
