CAN I LEAVE AFTER JOINING THE SEMINARY?

Where your heart is, there is your treasure also. (Mt 6:21)

Nobody expects you to make a permanent commitment while in the Seminary.

The life in the seminary is a time of continuous discernment when you have the opportunity to experience a lifestyle that is orientated towards the priesthood.

It is also a place where you gain support to come to a prayerful and informed decision about God’s will for your future.

If you are sincere about seeking God’s plan for you, the seminary experience could certainly help you to find His will.

If eventually you decide to leave the seminary, you will be proud to know that you have come to an informed and prayerful decision that God has not called you to the priesthood.

However, it would be a great pity never to give yourself the chance to explore the question at all!

Whether or not you become a priest, you will gain a valuable faith experience by being immersed in the Seminary atmosphere of prayer, community life and study.

Fr Valerian Cheong

"There were lots of struggles, both in terms of interior and community life, intellectual pursuits and fraternal friendships. I have to admit that there were times when I felt I could not take such challenges any more and wanted to throw in the towel. However, with the Grace of God, and through prayer and spiritual direction, I have been able to overcome such drastic moves. "
