Can Laypersons And Religious Sign Up For Seminary Courses?
The Seminary's academic training is meant primarily for the seminarians, but it is also available to members of various religious congregations and lay people. Lay people and religious are especially encouraged to participate in the courses offered, be it philosophical, liturgical, biblical or theological. They may sign up as one of the following categories of students.
What are the Categories of Students?
The academic program caters to three categories of students. They are Ordinary Students, Extraordinary Students and Audit Students.
Ordinary Students
Required to complete the full academic program and sit for all examinations and the Baccalaureate at the end of the Theology cycle.
Extraordinary Students
Do not have to complete the entire academic program but are required to sit for examinations.
Audit Students
Enrolled in one or more courses without the obligation of sitting for the examinations.
All candidates to the diocesan priesthood are required to follow the seminary course proper, beginning with the Initiation Year. Extra-Ordinary students may apply for other courses that are relevant to their studies and/or interests. However, some philosophical and theological subjects may require the student to complete the basic courses before enrolling for the advanced courses.
A certificate of completion for the Philosophy and Theology cycles will only be given to Ordinary students.
